SERUMS: The Ultra-Concentrated Version of Skincare
Serums to hydrate, fade the appearance of wrinkles or dark spots, or to brighten your complexion... For over a decade, they have been a fixture on every shelf. But do they truly add value to every skincare routine? For Laboratoire Dr Renaud, serums are a pivotal part of any skincare regimen. Thanks to formulas rich in key ingredients, serums pack a powerful punch in their light, fluid texture for rapid absorption and instant action.
Our formulators have specially developed them to work in synergy with our day and night creams, enhancing the effects of these products.
We offer three expert serums with very specific actions:
Our InnovHyalHA HydraSerum volumizes with highly concentrated hyaluronic acid technology. It's recommended for everyone, women and men, and for all skin types without exception, including oily and sensitive skins, starting from the first signs of aging (mainly deep dehydration, wrinkles, superficial dehydration). It is best used several times a year as a treatment course. The result? Hydrated, intensely plumped skin!
The ExCellience CellClock™ - Cellular Youth Serum is a targeted treatment for tired skins or those lacking vitality. A blend of three plant extracts, a peptide, and a biotechnological extract guarantees a revitalizing boost!
And the 10% Vitamin C Serum with M2PE technology combines the purest form of vitamin C with our exclusive M2PE technology for all skin types that have been exposed to the sun or wish to protect themselves optimally. The result: skin that radiates vitality, a glowing complexion, day by day!
When and how to use your beauty serum?
Vitamin C is an essential ally from the early twenties, especially in summer and during any sun exposure. Hyaluronic acid can address specific dehydration issues from 20 years old but becomes very useful from the first visible signs of aging. There are plenty of reasons to give in to the temptation!
Most serums can be used day and night, unless otherwise indicated. Apply the serum at the beginning of your routine, just after thoroughly cleansing your skin and before applying your day and/or night cream.
You can also use them alone, for example, in the summer when the atmosphere is very humid and you're looking for a very light product. However, as mentioned earlier, they amplify the effects of our day/night cream. Applying a cream over the serum helps protect it and keeps it in contact with the skin longer.
The serum will also work wonders under a mask and work in concert with it for more intense care.
The effectiveness of daily serum use will be visible very quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have oily skin, can I use a serum?
Yes, absolutely. For example, a hydrating serum can moisturize oily skin without leaving a greasy film.
Do I absolutely need to use a serum twice a day?
It is generally recommended to use a serum twice a day for optimal results, but depending on your skin type, desired effect, and current skincare routine, your aesthetician may recommend using it once a day.
Can I use one type of serum in the morning and another in the evening?
As mentioned above, it is advisable to apply a serum twice a day in a treatment course, but there are always possible exceptions. For example, you might choose to use the 10% Vitamin C Serum with M2PE in the morning for protective antioxidant benefits during the day, then use an exfoliating serum like our AHA refining and revitalizing serum in the evening to smooth and improve your skin texture.
Can I mix my serum with my day creams?
Most serums are water-based with a light, fluid texture for maximum and rapid absorption by the skin. That's why we recommend applying your serum first, and then your day or night cream on top.
It is recommended to use our serums this way, but for dry skin that needs additional lipid protection, we have developed the Omega-3 Relipidant Serum. This serum is oil-based, so you can apply it directly to the skin for immediate reparative action or mix it with your favorite cream for additional protection. This strategy can be very beneficial during the winter months.
What is the order of application for serums when layering products?
A general rule for layering products is to follow the "texture rule." That is, always apply lighter-textured products first, then layer the thicker product on top.
